Functional Skills English courses run at various times and on various days throughout the year. Most accredited English courses are 3 hour morning or afternoon sessions which usually start at 9.30am or 1.00pm respectively. Our courses commence in late September and run for 16 - 32 weeks depending on the level and the need of our learners.
Our English courses offer you the opportunity to improve your reading, writing and verbal communication and presentation skills. You will look at lots of different types of texts, for example letters, emails, newspaper and magazine articles, reports and internet contributions.
The courses are designed to develop your ability to understand and use effective English in your everyday life, at work and to support the development of your English skills to benefit other subjects you may choose to study.
Functional Skills will allow you to use English skills practically. This includes employment, leisure and reading for pleasure. You will be encouraged to develop your confidence whilst working together with other learners.
Learners will take a reading exam and a writing exam. Speaking, listening and communication will be assessed through formal and informal one-to-one, paired and group discussions. Level 2 learners are required to prepare and deliver a presentation. You will be given ample opportunity to practise for the formal exams as well as the chance to complete a range of work to further develop your skills.
We offer Functional Skill qualifications from Entry Level 1 to 2. All English qualifications are awarded by Edexcel.
